In the event that the cruising, sun, and warm breezes you’ll experience during your charter aren’t relaxing enough, during the third weekend in July every year you can visit the San Juan Island Lavender Festival. The festival is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pelindaba Lavender Farm, which is located about 7 miles east of Friday Harbor, and admission is free. Visitors to the farm can take tours and view exhibits that survey the entire process of running a lavender farm, from planting and growing through processing into the finished product. The fields are open for guests to stroll and relax. There is also a cutting field for u-pick bouquets, with several varieties of lavender to choose from. Demonstrations are held throughout the day covering topics such as lavender cultivation, harvesting, essential oil distillation, cooking with lavender, and more. The farm is known for its culinary lavender, and offers lavender ice cream, lavender lemonade, and lavender cookies among other treats for sale. They also provide island-style picnic lunches for guests to enjoy out in the fields. Although the festival is only held one weekend out of the year, Pelindaba Lavender Farm is open to visitors year-round, and encourage guests to drop by and explore the farm.
